Yuri Alvear and the new blood of judo that is formed in Jamundí

Some go, but at the same time others arrive. That’s what life in general is all about, and even more so in sports when it is known that time in high performance competition has a limit.

Judo is a sport that has been working from a small foundation in Colombia and that little by little has become renowned thanks to Olympic performances such as those of Luz Adiela Álvarez and the legendary Yuri Alvear, who today bet on the new blood of this sport.

“They are very young boys, judo is a sport of training and experience, and the truth is that we must continue to work hard with this group. Obviously there is always the expectation that in games like these, history will be made, but this is about processes, the important thing here is to correct to improve and continue to grow ”, said the coach.

The judocas who have already represented Colombia in past editions of the Olympic Games, have that sense of belonging with the young promises and a great call to the responsibility of being present among them and in their cities as Luz Adiela Álvarez does.

“I think that what needs to be worked on in each one of them is the conviction they must have, because not only, that is to say: I want to go to the Olympic Games, and I want to be a medalist of these, but to know that in This process is going to have many obstacles such as injuries, losses, being away from the family and that is what we are working on ”.

Colombia aspires to be a protagonist in these Junior Pan American Games, in this discipline, however, it is clear that the bases must continue to accompany each other and that resources are necessary to continue growing, that is why they demand a High Performance Center for young judokas .

“It is a time to look at how judo is presented at a national and international level, it is a matter of professionalism, to be a high performance athlete it is not only four or five hours of training, you must be committed 24 hours to the rest and food so that it can bear fruit. This is the mentality that we are working with with the new promises ”.

The cradle of Colombian Judo
Jamundí has been characterized as a city that is discovering, training and training judo in the country. This municipality already has its coliseum called Yuri Alvear and seeks to continue being the base for Colombia in this discipline.

“This is a sport that is already in rural areas such as Timba, Chagres, Potrerito, Robles, so this means that we can have different students with many conditions and abilities. Many expectations with the coliseum that has been in a good condition and that future champions can be formed, that is our dream ”.
