With 2 broken knees and at a fast pace: American runs 6 marathons in 6 weeks | Athletics

Shalane Flanagan was vice Olympic champion in the 10,000 meters in 2008. Her personal best in the marathon is 2:21:14″.

Due to 2 broken knees, the American decided 2 years ago to end her professional career. But the running animal started to itch again during the corona crisis and Flanagan took on a challenge: running 6 prestigious marathons in 6 weeks.

On September 26, 40-year-old Flanagan kicked off her marathon series in Berlin (2:38’32”), followed by strong performances in London (2:35’04”), Chicago (2:46’39”), Boston (2:40’36”), Oregon (2h35’14”) and New York (2h33’32”).

The combination Chicago (October 10) and Boston (October 11) was especially a feat. An ice bath helped her recuperate between both marathons.

“Over the past 6 weeks I have fallen in love with running and the marathon again,” Flanagan said after her 6th marathon, yesterday in New York.

“I want to say so many things and thank so many more people. And I want to share so many feelings. But now I make time for champagne and fries.”
