In terms of sport, they had managed to get promoted back to the 1st Bundesliga: But now the basketball women of TSV Wasserburg are giving up their right to promotion – two years after relegation. This is the reason.
Wasserburg – What an incredible achievement by the Wasserburg basketball women: they narrowly avoided relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga last year and have now gained the opportunity to be promoted to the 1st Bundesliga! But the Inn will forego returning to the upper house. The Wasserburger department management has now announced this.

“Being in the first league is something that was part of the agenda in Wasserburg for many years. After all, the club has brought the championship and the cup to Wasserburg countless times. The fans and sponsors who have always remained loyal to the club in difficult times are also in the first league,” says a press release. And further: “It’s all the better that the players, the fans, the hard-working volunteers and the loyal sponsors from the region can now reward themselves with such success. The department heads with Sarah Bartholdt, Jakob Schedel and Esther Friedrich would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been so committed and energetic this season.”

Wasserburg cannot financially support the promotion
However, in coordination with the main club, the management of the basketball department decided not to exercise the right to promotion. Department head Sarah Bartholdt emphasizes: “Promotion needs to be well prepared, in particular sustainable structures need to be created in order to be organizationally prepared for the first league. The DBBL has massively increased its requirements and conditions for the 1st Bundesliga in order to further promote the professionalization of the sport. Despite all the enthusiasm of the fans, the clear, clear commitment of the sponsors and the great commitment of everyone involved, the dream cannot yet come true this year. The Wasserburg basketball department will not be able to achieve promotion yet.”
After all, you want to go to the first league in order to stay there. And this requires not only sporting ability and a larger budget but also a deeper and broader organization. Bastian Wernthaler, the board of TSV Wasserburg, welcomes the serious structure and supports this decision. re
