UPDATE: Series mate Lokeren-Temse supports ailing KRC Gent

It is thundering within the Ghent football world. Not necessarily in the Ghelamco Arena, but at Koninklijke Racing Club Gent, which plays in the Tweede Nationale. The club has decided to dissolve itself. It points an evil finger to … the big brother, KAA Gent.

KRC Gent has announced on its own website that the end is approaching. That is because the local club will soon be without a location to complete its matches. After all, the accommodation in Oostakker, where it is currently working, is owned by KAA Gent and the city of Ghent. After mutual consultation, no agreement was reached to continue working together in the future.

In an extensive message on its website, KRC Gent expresses itself particularly sharply towards the city and From Buffalo’s. ‘In recent weeks we have often had to think about the words that Ivan De Witte spoke at a press conference of KAA Gent in mid-June: “My life motto remains: never do to others what you do not want what others would do to you. That goes for everybody. It is good that everyone respects that,” the chairman of KAA Gent is quoted as saying.

Less than six months later, the same Ivan De Witte finally delivered the final blow to KRC Gent: on Tuesday November 16, an ultimate consultation took place between the City of Ghent, KAA Gent and KRC Gent, with the result that KRC Gent is no longer welcome at the current location from 1 July 2022. The oldest club in Ghent and one of the oldest in the country (stam number 11) is therefore unceremoniously pushed aside’, it sounds bitter.

Only youth
Since the city council of Ghent has not come up with a solution either, KRC Ghent is forced to stop. After all, the current contract will expire at the end of 2022. After that, KRC must therefore disappear from Oostakker. That is why it has decided to stop its A-team, which is currently eleventh in the Tweede Nationale, and the U23 team. The youth series up to U18 would remain insured.

Update: It is therefore impossible to get a good word out of KAA Gent at KRC Gent, but there is support from their own series. Lokeren-Temse, for example, has posted a message on its Twitter page to encourage the club. ‘We sincerely hope that a suitable solution will be found!’, the Waaslanders express their hope for a good outcome. The people of Lokeren obviously know what it feels like to lose your great love.
