“TTT Rīga” conceded to ZVVZ USK with 52:103 (12:30, 5:21, 19:27, 16:25).
In the 11th second of the game, the housekeepers were led by Jesmine Tomas with a two-point throw, but after 43 seconds of play, Ieva Pulvere put the housekeeper in the lead again – 4: 2. The guests responded with 11 consecutive points, reaching 13: 4 in the fourth minute.
The long period of “drought” was interrupted by Pulvere with two precise free throws, reaching 6:13, however, with another breakthrough worth eight points in less than a minute and a half, the guests achieved already 26:10 in their favor.
75 seconds before the end of the quarter, the breakthrough was stopped by Aija Klakockka with two points (12:26), but the Rigans had to wait for the next points for almost a quarter – nine minutes and 58 seconds. One minute and 17 seconds before the end of the half, the three-point shot was taken by Ieva Korzāne – 15:49.
21 seconds before the break Daugile Šarauskaite increased the number of points scored in the quarter of “TTT Rīga” to five, then did not take a penalty shot at 17:51 after two quarters.
In the third quarter, the margin in favor of the Prague Club continued to fluctuate by 30 points or more, making another breakthrough at the end of the quarter. After Powder took a three-point shot two minutes and 57 seconds before the end of the quarter (36:67), Powder scored the next three points after 42 seconds in the last quarter, reaching 39:78.
Nothing changed significantly in the last quarter, ZVVZ USK basketball players were convincingly controlling the events on the field.
Before the match on Wednesday, the Rigans took fifth place in Group A with two victories in five games, but the Prague basketball players were fourth with three successes.
In the first two games of the season, TTT Riga lost to last season’s finalists Ekaterinburg UGMK and Salamanca’s Perfumeries Avenida, then celebrated two victories over the Moscow MBA and Venice’s Umana Reyer, but in the previous duel the superiority of the Latvian BLMA was recognized.
ZVVZ USK lost to the Lat team at the beginning of the season, later won the Moscow and Seksarda KSC, then made minimal concessions to the UGMK, while in the last match they managed to beat the Salamanca club.
Natalia Heykova, the head coach of the opponents, is the only coach who has won with three different clubs in the Euroleague – Ružomberok in 1999 and 2000, Spartak in the Moscow region in 2007 and 2008, and ZVVZ USK in 2015. The coach has been working in Prague since 2012. In nine seasons he has won nine Czech championship titles (2013-2021), three times the Czech Cup (2014, 2015, 2021), as well as victory in the Euroleague (2015) and the European Super Cup (2015).
Under the guidance of the coach, the Prague Club has reached the “Four Finals” four times in Euroleague (fourth place in 2016 and 2017, third place in 2019). Currently, the team includes two basketball players from the Euroleague champions – Alena Hanušova and Terēza Vioralova.
The main tournament of the Euroleague will end on February 1, 2022. The top four teams in each group will qualify for the playoffs, while the fifth and sixth place winners will continue in the European Cup season.
The UGMK of Ekaterinburg became the champions last season, winning the “Perfumerias Avenida” of Salamanca in the final.
Last season, TTT Rīga lost all six games in the Euroleague Main Event and did not qualify for the playoffs. The tournament was held on a “bubble” basis in two runs, but this season the teams have returned to the usual format. The modest result is largely due to a lack of practice, as the team was unable to play the match from the beginning of November due to an emergency. In order to get a practice, TTT Rīga decided to play in the European Women’s Basketball League in the middle of December, where they managed to win bronze.
“TTT Rīga” also won the Latvian Women’s Basketball League for the eighth time in a row and for the 20th time in the history of the club.
