Dhe German sports youth dissociates itself from the attempt made on Wednesday by the President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Alfons Hörmann, as well as from members of the board to force the former board member Karin Fehres to admit that she wrote the anonymous letter to the – Keyword: culture of fear – led Hörmann to announce his resignation.
Dealing with Karin Fehres shocked her deeply and blatantly contradicts the values of sport and of course, respectful dealings with one another, according to a statement by the board on Thursday. The chairman Stefan Raid, guest in the presidium of the DOSB, and managing director Christina Gassner, member of the executive committee of the DOSB, had no knowledge of the events and never supported them. You would have seen Karin Fehres as a colleague and colleague of integrity.
Friday calls for changes
The SPD politician Dagmar Freitag, chairwoman of the sports committee in the German Bundestag for twelve years, indirectly called for the replacement of the chairwoman of the board, Veronika Rücker. “It is clear to me that there must be a new appointment to the presidium alone,” she told the sports information service with a view to the general meeting on December 4th: “The role of the chairman of the board must now also be questioned.”
Thomas Weikert, president of the table tennis world association ITTF, who is considered the favorite for the election of the president, announced that in the event of his election the positions of board and chairman would be up for grabs. Hörmann, Rücker and board member Thomas Arnold threaten Fehres with criminal and civil law consequences if she does not admit the authorship of the letter; an expert opinion proves this. Fehres rejects the accusation as absurd and baseless.
Meanwhile, in the upheaval at the top of the DOSB, Vice President Andreas Silbersack, who is responsible for popular sport, has now vacated his post. The 53-year-old justified his withdrawal from the leadership of the DOSB on Thursday with his double burden. Since September, Silbersack has also been chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt. “Both activities are highly political and require a high level of commitment. In addition to my other voluntary functions in sport, I am currently unable to fulfill both tasks to the required extent, ”explained Silbersack.
He will therefore not stand for the new election of the DOSB Presidium on December 4th in Weimar. In addition to popular sports, Silbersack is currently responsible for sports development in the umbrella organization. DOSB boss Hörmann and Vice President Kaweh Niroomand, who is responsible for finances, had previously announced that they would not stand for election.
After his retirement, Silbersack wants to remain first Vice President of Special Olympics Germany. He is also Honorary President of the State Sports Association of Saxony-Anhalt, which he headed from 2008 to 2019.
