Tennis: Alexander Zverev wins his second Masters

It is customary to say that revenge is a dish that is eaten cold. Alexander Zverev bided his time by winning this Sunday against Daniil Medvedev in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) in the Masters final which took place for the first time in Turin (Italy). The 24-year-old German tennis player remained, in fact, on a negative series of 5 defeats against his opponent of the day. The two players even faced each other on Tuesday in the second match of their group and the Russian won after the suspense in the tie-break of the third set (8 points to 6).

Twenty-four hours after dismissing world number one Novak Djokovic in the semifinals (7-6, 4-6, 6-3), Alexander Zverev once again completed the (almost) perfect match. He was initially impeccable on serve, conceding just 13 points in ten service games. In the exchange then where he won most of the long exchanges thanks to a remarkable physique because the German was playing his 74th game of the season this Sunday.

Thanks to this success, he becomes the 4th player in history to win the Masters after having beaten the first two world champions in the semi-final and then in the final. This victory at the Masters (for the 2nd time after 2018) concludes a good season for the native of Hamburg after his gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in August where he had notably overthrown Novak Djokovic in the semi-final before beating in the final a other Russian Karen Khachanov. He now has to win a first Grand Slam. Maybe for 2022?
