Technical director spoke ‘person to person’ with Vloet: ‘Rai is devastated’

Tim Gilissen, technical director of Heracles Almelo, had an emotional conversation with Rai Vloet, following his involvement in a fatal accident. The board member says to help Vloet ‘where possible’.

Last week Gilissen and Vloet had a conversation about the situation. “Yes, Rai is affected. He is devastated”, the technical director acknowledges in conversation with the NOS. The former player of NAC Breda, among others, speaks of a conversation ‘from person to person’. “Of course he’s a player and I’m here in office, but initially it’s a person-to-person conversation.”

Gilissen acknowledges that Heracles will help the midfielder where necessary, although the victim’s family should not be forgotten. “He needs time to process this and we will help him where necessary. That will be a process and how long that will take is difficult to say. It is difficult for us, but we know it is much more difficult elsewhere, so we also need a bit of modesty and restraint,” concludes Gilissen.

Vloet was arrested last week after a collision on the A4. Together with a friend, he was involved in a car accident in which a four-year-old boy from Zoetermeer was killed. Whoever was behind the wheel is not allowed to disclose to the police due to privacy legislation.
