TREVISO – The Coronavirus overwhelms the youth sectors of the sport. They range from soccer to volleyball, to swimming and judo. The stop has already been triggered for 12 teams: they are all in quarantine. And in several cases, the class attended by young athletes was also placed in isolation. In the last few days, the contagion of 200 children under the age of 18. A huge number. Sections of schools in quarantine or monitoring are already 108. At this rate, however, the USL expects them to rise to 120 as early as next week.
STATE OF ALERT
Today the virus is making its way particularly in the world of sports. And then it cascades. Security protocols are not lacking, but it is a fact that Covid has started to circulate heavily. So much so that the quota of 1,000 new infections a week in the province: exactly 1,096 has been reached. «And a third of those affected are regularly under the age of 19 – underlines Francesco Benazzi, general manager of the USL of the Marca – these are numbers that put the chills a bit. At the moment we have not foreseen any closure. But if we return to the yellow zone, with all the related restrictions, it will be the fault of those who have not been vaccinated. Those who do not vaccinate substantially harm the rights of those who have already done so. Indeed, I hope that even in the face of this, all the people who have not yet done so will decide to vaccinate themselves against the Coronavirus».
FROM THE FIELD TO THE PARISH
As for the youth teams, the biggest outbreak is the one that exploded among the students of Follinese Calcio. The last screening performed with molecular swabs confirmed the presence of 9 infected: seven boys and two managers. «Then there are 8 other football teams placed in quarantine – reveals the general manager – these with an average of 2 infected per team». AND the same thing happened in a women’s volleyball team and a swimming team. As well as in a judo group. All in quarantine. Identical speech for two classes of the catechism. «There are many small outbreaks that add up. The situation is also complex due to the proximity between the world of sport and that of school – underlines Benazzi – if two infected young people attend the same class, their classmates are also placed in isolation.».
THE FOURTH WAVE
The provincial data confirm what appears to be the beginning of a fourth wave. The positivity rate in the Marca has risen again. Now it is 125 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. The most affected district is that of Treviso Nord (132). But the others are following more and more closely: Asolo is at 127, Pieve di Soligo at 126 and Treviso Sud at 107. And unfortunately hospital admissions are increasing. In the last 24 hours, the number of positive ICU patients has doubled: from 3 to 6. «It is getting consistent», warns Benazzi. Three are in Treviso: in addition to the patient from Jesolo, there are now also one here 59 year old not vaccinated and a 74-year-old who had instead completed his cycle with AstraZeneca, both transferred to CPR from Pulmonology. The other three are in the intensive care of Vittorio Veneto. Overall, the number of positive patients admitted to Treviso hospitals rose to 73 (+5 in one day). Among these, the number of entries in the semi-intensive area of Pneumology is growing: there are 5 patients in Treviso and 3 in Montebelluna. «We have returned to dedicating all 30 beds of the Infectious Diseases of Treviso to Covid and we have doubled the Montebelluna area, from 10 to 20 places – this is the picture made by the director general of the USL – for the moment we will not trigger an additional emergency plan for hospitals». The monitoring showed that 37% of the infected had vaccinated against Covid. Three-quarters, however, had only taken the first dose. «With the passing of the months the protection is reduced – concludes Benazzi – the important thing is to get vaccinated with the complete cycle. And now also with the third dose (now available for over 60s and from 1 December also for over 40s, as long as six months have passed since the last injection, ed). Attention is increasing: yesterday we administered 1,495 third doses. Evidently the fear of a new wave is pushing citizens to protect themselves. And this can help everyone».
