Sports. Great success for the Generation Basket center

Sixty-one children showed up during the week of the internship; almost two-thirds did not have a club license. The organizers noted 179 passages in total and, per session, there were between 20 and 30 participants, with a majority of boys.

The Generation Basket – CGB – centers, created by the French Basketball Federation in 1999, are free basketball courses for all young people aged 8 to 18, whether licensed or not, with a view to promoting social integration through sport. An initiation and improvement course that allows you to discover the values ​​of this sport, without a competitive spirit and without any prior registration constraints. A healthy occupation, therefore, during the school holidays.

Such an operation has been used several times in the Haut-Rhin, in particular in Mulhouse, Illzach, Saint-Louis and in Colmar, already two seasons ago. “A free practice offer” as pointed out by Jérôme Dhollande, representing the departmental basketball committee (CD) 68, whose objective is to organize three sessions per year.

The supervision was provided by Pierre Bilbeau, federal technical advisor to CD 68, Karin Fuchs, one of the linchpins of the Colmar club. In sequence, Philippine, Esma, Manelle and Clara, young Colmar Basket players, provided their help.

Friday, October 29, to close the session, Eric Troppi, president of Colmar Basket, surrounded by Gérard Bosch, honorary president, and Bernard Bensch, president of the events committee, received Barbaros Mutlu, deputy mayor of the City of Colmar, in charge of sports, and Jérôme Dhollande, president of the CD 68 development committee.

Saying that he was pleasantly surprised by the high number of participants, Eric Troppi recalled that this course took place at the same time as the media day “D-1000 of the Paris 2024 Olympics” on October 28. He also thanked Barbaros Mutlu for the provision by the City of the hall and, more generally, of the halls so that the days of the championship can take place properly.

The Colmar deputy, for his part, noted the social utility of these events which contribute to “education for citizenship” and to learning “respect, humility, living together, collective values”. With regard to sports facilities, he reaffirmed his wish to also open them for “integration and health sport actions” which fit perfectly into the spirit of the label. Playground 2024 which aims to “change people’s daily lives through sport and allow as many people as possible to experience the Olympic and Paralympic adventure now”.
