Sophia Thomalla donates consolation to Alex Zverev: “Lost, but still a winner”

Alexander Zverev ran out of air at the Masters in Paris. Now it is important for the Olympic tennis champion to gather strength for the season’s final spurt.

Alexander Zverev needed consolation, and he found him with his new girlfriend. “Lost, but still a winner,” wrote Sophia Thomalla on Instagram – of course under the appropriate photos. On one of them she leans her head on Zverev’s shoulder, on the other the young couple is kissing. The message: A defeat can be so beautiful.

Zverev (24) had previously felt less in good hands on the pitch. In the semifinals of the Masters in Paris he ran out of air, in the 2: 6, 2: 6 against the Russian US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, Zverev had no chance. As at the Grand Slam tournament in New York, the only thing left for the Hamburg-based artist was the spectator role when Medvedev and Novak Djokovic (Serbia) played for victory.

Zverev is currently not approaching the top duo of the tennis scene, but exhausting weeks are behind him. After leaving Indian Wells in the Californian desert, Zverev flew to Vienna, won his 18th title there and traveled on to Paris. Always by his side: Sophia Thomalla, according to her own statements, actress, presenter, advertising face, Berlin investor.

Gather strength for the ATP finals in Turin

Now it is time for Zverev to gather strength, he does without the originally planned indoor tournament in Stockholm. His last stop of the year is in Turin at the season finale of the eight best tennis professionals (from November 14th). There Zverev, who won the 2018 tournament in London, will meet Medvedev and Djokovic again, who looked more rested in Paris.

Djokovic also comes to the final highlight of the season with a special achievement: for the seventh time, he ends a tennis year as number one in the world rankings and thus becomes the sole record holder. So far he had shared the record with Pete Sampras. “It was a dream, Pete has been my idol since I was young,” said Djokovic.
