Regional athletes who will be part of the Junior Pan American Games in Cali-Valle travel to Colombia

The members of the Promesas Chile program, the badminton coach Susana Salinas and the badminton player, Alonso Medel, set out for coffee lands with high expectations.

Between November 23 and 30, the Cali-Valle 2021 Junior Pan American Games will be held in Colombia, which will include 220 Chilean athletes, including two members of the Promesas Chile program present in our region, the badminton player Alonso Medel and the technician of this discipline, Susana Salinas.

Before heading to the coffee country, the Seremi del Deporte, Roberto Meza and the IND Regional Director, Nellie Miranda Eldan, fired the DT who will join Alonso in the city of Cali, since the young man is ending his participation in a concentrate of the discipline that takes place in Brazil.

“The expectations of a coach with his team are always to achieve the first objective, which is the podium, but the results are also obtained based on the circumstances and I think we have worked well, even more so considering that Alonso participated in a concentration in Brazil, so he has had more hours of training and greater potential for sparring which could help him in his performance, so I have to hope that we do well ”, said the technician Susana Salinas.

Precisely about his performance in this sporting event, Alonso Medel commented that “I would like to try a medal but I am super focused and with my feet on the ground.”

In parallel, the authorities also fired the young Valeria Santos (14), Martín Olmos (13), Agustín Maldonado (15) and Camila Astorga (16) who will represent Chile in the South American badminton to be played between November 26 and on December 5 in JoinVille, Brazil.

“I have high expectations, I have trained for months and I think I can get a good podium”, Agustín Maldonado affirms, while his partner, Valeria Santos, specified that he hopes “Get a medal and give my all to do my best.” For her part, Camila Astorga, asserted that her expectations are “To reach the podium because it is an international competition and although there will be a very high level, I know that I will be able to achieve it”, while Martín Olmos said he felt “Prepared and I am happy to have the opportunity to go.”

After saying goodbye to the regional delegation, the Seremi del Deporte, Roberto Meza stressed that “We are proud of the growth that badminton has had in the region, this is the result of the great work done by managers, coaches, athletes and of course their families.”

Let us specify that the badminton players Belén Troncoso and Benjamín Bahámondez will also be part of the South American Championship; They are already in the Rio de Janeiro country participating in the same training concentrate that Alonso Medel was part of, along with the rest of the members of Team Chile in this discipline.
