Peter Vandenbempt: “Painful for Yves Vanderhaeghe, but who left Kortrijk out in the cold?” | Jupiler Pro League

In his review of the football weekend, commentator Peter Vandenbempt reflects on the trainers of Racing Genk, Club Brugge and Cercle Brugge. And he makes a call: “Just put on your mouth mask.”

There is still life in Club Brugge

For Club Brugge coach Philippe Clement, the problems are not necessarily over. A solution has been started, though.

The ten players in Genk have shown that there is still a lot of life and a lot of quality in the team. To conclude that the doubts are not there or were not? No, I think that’s wrong.

And as long as Ruud Vormer is not in the squad, his position will remain an item. It is a potential divisive object where his attitude will be very important.

For the time being, Vormer is behaving exemplary and the choice of the trainer is also supported by the bosses of Club Brugge.

The victory in Genk was therefore very welcome, but happiness in football is fragile. The day after tomorrow (in the cup) there is another Racing Genk – Club Brugge on the program and it is again a must.

New assistant does not help Van den Brom

Racing Genk received a terrible sledgehammer blow in the topper. There have been harsh words.

For the third time, Genk gives away a lead against a team in number and until the winter break, a very tough program follows. For the third time, the fate of coach John van den Brom hangs by a thread.

He rightly noted that football is still good. Play-off I is not that far away, but with grumbling supporters and with 5 defeats in 7 games you are always in danger.

Of course it does not help that during the previous crisis Genk put a fully-fledged and successful T1 on the bench next to Van den Brom as an assistant. I really don’t know any head coach who would agree to that. Whatever they claim.

Has Glen Riddersholm not yet been able to convince Van den Brom of his ideas? Or is the assistant holding them back? Football can be that cynical.

The Bankruptcy of Monaco

For Yves Vanderhaeghe, the story ends at Cercle Brugge. It reminded me of the dismissal of Bob Peeters in Lokeren. He also had to score after a necessary victory, because the chairman Georges Leekens had already presented a contract.

Cercle Brugge had already decided last week to replace Vanderhaeghe by the Austrian Thalhammer. After a very strong performance against the team of the moment – KV Mechelen – we can find that cynical, tragic and incomprehensible. It is yet another proof of the bankruptcy of the sporting policy from Monaco.

As far as I’m concerned, Vanderhaeghe has done very well at Cercle. So painful, but I like to remind him that at the time he himself left Kortrijk out in the cold for a better contract in the Ostend of Marc Coucke.

Luka Elsner recently imitated him with a move from Kortrijk to Standard. Anyone who doesn’t understand that is called a weird bird. Because a coach can also be fired.

Let’s say that trainers and chairmen are worth each other.

I like to remind Yves Vanderhaeghe that at the time he himself left Kortrijk in the cold for a better contract in Ostend.

Put on your mouth mask

Football can count itself lucky: the stadiums remain open, provided that the supporters wear a mouth mask. That didn’t work out so well.

I honestly don’t understand the football supporter. At the consultation committee on Friday, Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke argued strongly that the public would no longer be allowed in. Or at the very least significantly reduce the capacity.

In the Netherlands the stadiums are closed, in Germany the capacity is very limited. And then there are ministers who stick out their necks, who ensure that our supporters can continue to play football.

Wearing a mouth mask is apparently too much to ask. And everyone sees that on television. That is grist to the mill of those who are already annoyed by what they call privileges for football.

So here’s the friendly request: just put on that mask. It is a minimum of respect for the people who ensure that we can still go to football.
