Pacquiao’s High Praise for Canelo After Beating Plant

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Former world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao praise Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez after winning the IBF middleweight championship belt by winning TKO over Caleb Plant at Madison Square Garden, Sunday (7/11) Indonesian time.

With this victory, Canelo now collects the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF middleweight belts. Canelo won the IBF belt after dropping Plant in the 11th round last weekend.

Victory over Caleb Plant made Canelo the middleweight boxer who united four belts after Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Terence Crawford, Oleksandr Usyk and Josh Taylor.

Canelo’s series of prestigious titles received a response from former world welterweight champion, Manny Pacquiao.

“Congratulations to pound for pound king Canelo for making boxing history as the first undisputed super middle -class champion,” Pacquiao tweeted.

“Plant did a great fight, but Canelo was too good. Boxing is in great hands,” Pacquiao added.

Pacquiao’s exorbitant praise was not without reason. Despite his achievements in uniting four prestigious championship belts, Canelo deserves to be the best pound for pound boxer at the moment.

Quoted from Metro, in the last 11 months Canelo beat three previously unbeaten fighters to claim their world title, including two Britons, Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders.

Interestingly, in the last three duels Canelo has always won without a point decision. Against Avni Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders, Canelo won by referee technical decision or commonly called corner retirement after the opposing camp refused to continue the duel in the middle of the round. Meanwhile with Plant, Canelo won by TKO.
