Latvian champion “Olimp” / “Venta 2002” closed the third round of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) Continental Cup on Sunday. Olimp / Venta 2002 acknowledged the superiority of the local Pirates team in the third game of the tournament in Aalborg with 2: 7 (1: 1, 0: 2, 1: 4). Even before this fight, the people of Riga had lost hope of entering the final tournament.

In the sixth minute, the Latvian champions were nominated by Aleksejs Širokovs, but in the second half of the first period, Charlie Kērti equalized the result. In the first seven minutes of the second quarter, Kirill Kabanov scored two goals and scored 3: 1, while Jepe Jul Corsgord, Pierre Olivier Moren with two goals and Julian Jacobsen provided a devastating victory for the home team in the third quarter. Until the end of the match, the advantage of opponents was reduced by Nikita Priede.

It has already been reported that in the first fight on Friday, Olimp / Venta 2002 lost 1: 3 to the Belarusian club Gomel, but on Saturday acknowledged the superiority of Sheffield Steelers 2: 3. The Latvian club closed the Group F tournament without points, but the other three units had six points. Thanks to better additional players, the Danish and Belarusian teams made it to the final four. Meanwhile, the Kazakh team of Karaganda “Sarjarka” led by Leonid Tambijev, represented by Edgar Siksna, Danila Larionov and Deniss Fyodorov, won the Group E tournament and secured a place in the final tournament.

Olimp / Venta 2002 won the second round, winning a group that also included Hungarian, Estonian and Ukrainian teams. In the third stage, eight teams are divided into two subgroups, with the top two entering the final four tournaments. The winner of the tournament will have the right to play in the IIHF Champions League in the 2022/2023 season. The IIHF Continental Cup was not held last season.
