‘Ogre’ basketball players win in Rakvere

The Latvian basketball team “Ogre” beat Rakvere “Tarvas” in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) match with the result 72:57 (15:10, 21:15, 20:17, 16:15).

The most productive for Ogre was Kristaps Dargais, who scored 18 points in nine out of ten two-point shots, won 15 rebounds, gave four assists, intercepted three balls, blocked two shots and scored 41 efficiency points. Rihards Zēbergs agreed with 20 points, but Paulius Poška was also quite versatile, with eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Aleksa Nikoličs scored 15 points for the homeowners.

The Ogre team has won five games in the last eight games, which gives a solid sixth place. Four of them have been celebrated in the last five matches. One of the last players in the league has been beaten twice – “Ogres”, now trained by the former coach Nikolai Mazur, “University of Tartu” / “Maks & Moorits” (81:75, 85:66), once – “University of Latvia” (82:63), but in the fourth match lost to the second place in the league “VEF Rīga” team – 84:96.

The Rakvere team has celebrated only one success in nine fights this season and takes the last place in the competition of 14 teams. The victory was won on November 5, beating the Tartu team at 91:89 in the extra time. After that, a loss was made to the guests against the league’s newcomer Hābnese’s “Viimsi” (73:84).

So far, both teams have met five times in the Baltic championships, once celebrating the victory without a game for the people of Rakvere. “Ogre” has won the square four times.

“Ventspils”, which has won six games in the past, is in the leading positions in the tournament tables, “VEF Rīga” with eight wins and one loss is in the bottom position, but the best three are closed by Tallinn’s “TalTech” / “Optibet” with seven wins in eight matches.

In the LIBL main tournament, the teams will play a two-round tournament until March 20. The top eight will compete in the quarter-finals, with the winners determined by the sum of two games. LIBL champions are expected to be determined in the final four tournament. The season will end with the elimination games of the Latvian and Estonian championships.
