NFL: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif defeated in his first start with the Jets; Dolphins win 24-17

SUMMARY

Guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif suffered defeat on his first start in the New York Jets uniform.

“LDT” took over from Greg Van Roten in the starting lineup, but his new team lost 24-17 to the Miami Dolphins, who posted a third straight victory.

Tua Tagovailoa threw a 5-yard pass to Myles Gaskin early in the fourth quarter for the touchdown and the Dolphins then hung on to their lead.

It was the first start for Duvernay-Tardif since winning the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in February 2020.

The Quebecer was acquired by the Jets in early November in return for tight end Dan Brown.

The Jets, who have rebounded in defense after allowing at least 45 points in three of their last four games, failed to make any key saves late in the game as their offense struggled to rack up the first tests.

Joe Flacco got his first start with the Jets. The veteran was preferred over Mike White, as rookie Zach Wilson missed a fourth straight game.

Flacco completed 24 of his 39 passes for gains of 291 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah Moore had 141 yards, a career high.

The Dolphins (4-7) and Jets (2-8) are having tough seasons. It was the 1112th clash between the two teams. The Dolphins took the lead in the showdown, now 56-55-1 against the Jets.
