Morata sends La Furia Roja to the 2022 World Cup

Spain sealed their ticket to the 2022 World Cup after beating Sweden 1-0. Alvaro Morata scored the winning goal for La Furia Roja.

Spain vs Sweden took place at the Estadio La Cartuja, Seville in the final match of the Group B phase of the 2022 World Cup Qualification, Monday (15/11/2021) early morning WIB. Spain just need a draw to seal a ticket to Qatar.

On the other hand, Sweden must win in order to win Group B and seal a ticket to the World Cup. Zlatan Ibrahimovic et al. before the game rolls are one point behind Spain.

Spain in the end was able to win with a score of 1-0. The winning goal was scored by Morata in the 86th minute, who had just started the match in the second half replacing Pablo Sarabia.

Spain has the right to pocket a ticket to the 2022 World Cup after winning Group B with 19 points. Sweden had to go through the play-offs because they were runners-up with 15 points.

The course of the match

Spain held the dominance of possession from the first minute, but it was not easy to get into the Swedish penalty box. The Matador team made their first attempt from outside the penalty box through Pablo Sarabia’s shot which had not yet been aimed at the goal.

Sweden, who played more defensively, just tried to wait for the moment to be able to launch a counter-attack. An experiment from Sweden was only in the 16th minute through Emil Forsberg’s long-range shot which did not lead to the goal.

Spain released two experiments from outside the penalty box in the 22nd minute. Experimental balls from Jordi Alba and Dani Olmo were also unable to lead to the goal.

Sweden even almost scored in the 39th minute. A cross was crossed by Emil Forsberg, but the ball was tipped wide at Unai Simon’s far post. The score 0-0 lasted until halftime.

Sweden, who needed a win to lock up a World Cup ticket, were more of a threat in the second half. There were three attempts by Sweden in the first 10 minutes of the second half and one golden opportunity when Alexander Isak’s shot from outside the box went wide.

Aymeric Laporte became the first player to have a shot on goal. However, the Spanish defender’s experiment from outside the penalty box was still weak and the ball was easily secured by Robin Olsen.

After repeatedly pressing through experiments from outside the penalty box, Spain could finally lead 1-0 in the 86th minute. The goal started with Olmo’s long-range shot which hit the post, the ball rebounded then fell at the feet of Morata who calmly scored the goal.

There were no additional goals until the game was over. Spain was able to win and qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
