MLB: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bryce Harper win Hank Aaron Award

New York, EE. UU. /

Almost a year after his death, the MLB continues to honor the memory of one of the greatest players in the history of the Big leagues, recognition that they have done since 1999 when he was still alive. First base Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the right fielder Bryce Harper were chosen as the winners of the Premio Hank Aaron, delivered to the best offensive player in each league.

The announcement was made four days after Aaron’s wife, Billye, spoke at the memorial parade for the title of the 2021 World Series obtained by the Braves, a franchise with which Aaron spent the first 21 seasons of his career. That culminated a season in which Major League Baseball honored Aaron in a number of ways, including a keepsake to his memory during the Stars game on Coors Field and have the number 44 in the gardens of Truist Park.

The winners were chosen by a panel made up of members of the Hall of Fame What Johnny Bench, Craig Biggio, Ken Griffey Jr., Chipper Jones, the dominican Pedro Martinez, Eddie Murray, John Smoltz and Robin Yount, as well as a fan vote on MLB.com. Each Major League Baseball club nominated a player from their team to be considered, and a panel of editors from the official website of the majors determined the seven finalists from each league.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Blue Jays

After his 22-year season, Guerrero is the fourth player for the Blue Jays in winning the Premio Hank Aaron, joining the Puerto Rican Carlos Delgado (2000), to the Dominican Jose Bautista (2010, 2011) and Josh Donaldson (2015).

Guerrero tied the Venezuelan receiver Salvador Perez in the leadership of the Big leagues with 48 home runs and finished first in the American League in on-base percentage (.401) and slugging (.601). No player of the MLB had more runs scored (123) or total bases (363) than Guerrero, who appeared in all but one of Toronto.

Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies

Formerly winner of the Hank Aaron award from the National League in 2015, Harper became the 12th player to win recognition multiple times. Alex Rodriguez has the most Hank Aaron awards with four, followed by Barry Bonds with three.

“It’s a great honor. To be able to win this award after Hank passed away in January, I mean, what an amazing person he was, “Harper said.” … Thankful for that and I can’t thank everyone who voted for me enough. Just remember Hank of this award too ”.
