Le Matin – Basketball, day 1: AS Salé wins at the finish against WAC

The WAC (in red) tied with AS Salé during the first three quarters, before collapsing in the last.

Thanks to an excellent last quarter, AS Salé took the best Saturday on Wydad of Casablanca (65-55) at the Fathallah Bouazzaoui room, during the opening of the 2021-2022 season, South group. Carried by his rookie Harouna and his leader Zakaria Mesbahi, the Slaouis moved up a gear in the fourth quarter, while the score was tied (45-45) at the end of the third quarter.

Long mistreated by the WAC at the opening of the 2021-2022 season, AS Salé ended up bending the meeting during the last quarter (65-55). The 10-point gap emerged in the last quarter thanks to the performance of his new recruit Harouna, who planted 23 points, followed by Zakaria Mesbahi, author of 17 points, and Azouga, 12 points. The two teams were tied (45-45) in the third quarter. Wydad has long been on a par with the ogre Slaoui, as evidenced by the score of the first quarter (16-15) and even more clearly that of the third quarter (45-45). The experience and especially the talent of the Slawi players ended up making the difference at the end of the game. Despite their loss, the WAC showed great things in their first outing this season. It is a club to be reckoned with this season. AS Salé will, as usual, play the leading roles.

Basketball Africa League, AS Salé will go through the elimination round
Qualified automatically last season for the Africa League basketball where it reached the quarter-finals stage, AS Salé will have to go through the qualifiers this year scheduled in Yaoundé from December 11 to 16. The Moroccan representative will play in Group 2 alongside SLAC 5 (Guinea), AS Niglec (Nigeria) and BC Espoir Fukash (DRC). The first two from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The two finalists will qualify for the BAL, as well as the team placed third. AS Salé must therefore raise its level to compete for the second consecutive time in the Basketball Africa League. nA.I.
