Jon Rahm will finish 2021 as World Number One but with a nuance

Collin Morikawa has consolidated its position as Number Two in the world ranking after its victory in the DP World Tour Championship. He has put land in the middle on Number Three, Dustin Johnson, whom he already distances in more than one point, and also approaches Jon Rahm’s Number One. Specifically, a little more than eight tenths of the Barrika golfer has been placed.

As we explained this week, whatever happens in the Hero World Challenge, tournament Tiger Woods which is held in the Bahamas and where Morikawa will participate, Rahm will finish 2021 as Number One in the world. However, unlike what we explained in that same article, and here comes the important nuance clarified by the world ranking guru @Nosferatu, the brand new champion of the Race to Dubai he can provisionally overtake Rahm in first place if he wins the Hero. Only the victory is worth him and it would be, as we say, an ephemeral Number One, since Jon would return to that first position before the end of the year.

It remains to be known exactly when that overtaking Morikawa over Rahm could take place, if the week after his hypothetical victory at the Hero, we insist that he only needs to win to be able to overcome Jon, or some week later. Be that as it may. The Spanish golfer is already guaranteed to be twenty consecutive weeks as Number One in the world, equaling the best streak he had in his day Seve Ballesteros.

Similarly, Jon has also made sure to surpass Jordan Spieth and has Vijay Singh in his sights.
