Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden will sue the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell, accusing them of destroying his career and reputation.
Gruden’s attorney, Adam Hosmer-Henner, officially filed the lawsuit in Clark County, Nevada’s Eighth Judicial District Court on Friday, according to documents sent to the NFL Network.
Gruden resigned from his post in October after an investigation of the Washington football team for workplace misconduct uncovered some compromising emails in which Gruden uses racist, misogynistic and transphobic comments.
Gruden and his lawyer accuse the defendants of having specifically chosen to expose Gruden’s emails, sending them to the “Wall Street Journal” and the “New York Times”.
“There is no explanation or justification as to why Gruden’s emails are the only ones made public, of the 650,000 emails gathered during the NFL investigation into the Washington football team,” or even why the emails were leaked in the middle of the Raiders’ season, ”reads the complaint filed by Hosmer-Henner.
The plaintiff also states that the NFL forced the Raiders to fire him, “by letting it be known that other documents would be released if he did not.”
Gruden was in the fourth year of a 10-season contract, earning him $ 100 million, when he was fired. Raiders owner Mark Davis said at the time that an agreement had been reached between Gruden and him for the remaining years, without revealing the details.
