Last weekend an international judo tournament took place in Györ (HUN).
A total of 11 judokas from Switzerland were there, including 2 athletes from Basel: Markus Schlatter and Samanta Stegena from the Basel-Stadt competitive sports promotion.
Markus Schlatter from the sports high school had a total of 4 fights and made it to the 2nd round of repechage, where Markus had to fight a very strong and experienced judoka from Romania and unfortunately had to admit defeat. Thus Markus reached the 7th place out of a total of 23 participants in the U18 -60kg category.
Samanta Stegena from Basel won her first fight against her club colleague Maria Carraca in the U18 -44kg category, but could not prevail in the second fight against the Austrian champion and lost the fight. So Samanta had to be content with 3rd place.

After the competition, all Swiss stayed in Györ and completed a training camp with many different nations such as: HUN, SVK, ROM, SUI, CZE, AUT, and SWE.
