Georgiy: From Orange Belt to National Championship Contender, the Rising Star of Garlin Judo Club

“Georgiy is very well integrated among the players and he is already the pride of our club. He will have the support of all his tatami comrades,” rejoices President Pierre Lamarche. Georgiy, 15 years old, 1.67 m tall and 54 kg, started judo in Odessa around 10 years old. Arriving as an orange belt in Garlin, he was directed to the local dojo from his first days in Béarn by his neighbor, the judoka-president Pierre Lamarche.

Motivated and very diligent

“I was very surprised by the very friendly atmosphere of the classes here with lots of laughs and extensions between us after the sessions. I was hooked straight away and I don’t miss a training session,” says Georgiy. On the advice of his teacher Alexia Piccioni, he quickly crossed the thresholds and achieved good results: 3rd in the last departmental championship, 2nd division in the Espoir category, he won silver in the regional and opened his participation in the national championship in Ceyrat in Auvergne in less than 55 kg, on May 19.

“Georgy is strong from above and very lively in his attacks. He is diligent, very motivated and learns techniques very quickly. He improves with the support of videos and reproduces them impeccably,” summarizes Louise Jurbert, the teacher who makes Georgiy and two other judoka friends work on the katas for the black belt.

“It’s my first participation and for me it’s totally unexpected. The level will be very high, I know it, but now that I have qualified, I am going there to win with the encouragement of the whole club…” promises the 4th grade student from Joseph Peyré college in Garlin.
