Huelva opens Christmas with the inauguration of the lighting

The mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz, has kicked off the Christmas celebration in Huelva with the lighting of almost 2.5 million points of led light, in an opening ceremony turned into a party, loaded with music. The first mayor has taken the opportunity to invite Huelva and visitors to “enjoy the capital of Huelva, its commercial, cultural and leisure offer, with very original and varied proposals for all audiences that will last for more than a month” .

The Calle Botica and Divas Live concerts have been heating up the atmosphere in the Plaza de la Constitución, in front of the town hall façade, to prepare the large public gathered, which has been joined by the mascot of the Badminton World Championships ‘Huelva 2021’, the tigress ‘Onuba’, to promote the badminton World Cup that starts on Sunday November 28 and will run until December 19 at the ‘Carolina Marín’ Sports Palace. Together, they have starred in a countdown, full of emotion, which culminated with the expected explosion of lights and sparkles that this year’s Christmas lighting supposes.

An illumination in which the Gran Vía, with the spectacular floor figures in the Plaza de la Constitución and the impressive luminous tunnel that occupies almost half a kilometer in length, will be the star attractions of the Center this Christmas, with more than 100 musical passes distributed in two sessions from Sunday to Monday, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and adding one more on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, at 9:00 p.m.

But Christmas this year radiates throughout the city, with lighting that reaches 122 streets, including two new squares, Santa Raquel in Verdeluz and Luis de Vargas, between Avenida Italia and Calle Castilla. Among the data, 60 natural trees decorated with lamps stand out in the Plaza de La Merced, San Pedro, Casa Colón, Plaza Santa Raquel, Plaza Arqueológica, Plaza Niña, Federico Molina, Paseo Santa Fe, Quintero Báez and San Sebastián, in addition to 20 artificial trees of lights in different roundabouts and 9 Christmas trees in Torrejón, Plaza del Perdón, Parque La Luz, Plaza del Estadio, Plaza de las Monjas, Plaza Santa Raquel and in the 3 hospitals; in addition to ground figures and motifs grouped in the Plaza de las Monjas or in the Plaza Virgen del Rosario. Likewise, the lighting of Christmas 2021 in Huelva has 504 arches, more than 88 decorations on lampposts, 5 signs and the facades of the City Hall and the decorated Casa Colón. In total, 2,384,423 points of light, all LEDs, which represents a drastic reduction compared to the consumption of traditional lighting.

A lighting that serves, as the mayor has said, to “cover a cultural and leisure proposal with more than 150 activities that will be held for more than a month, from November 26 to January 6, to reach each corner of the capital ”. A program with which it is intended, in addition to promoting coexistence, leisure and the enjoyment of culture and traditions by the people of Huelva, promote tourism and trade with a wide, diverse and very attractive offer, following in the wake of a unique and innovative Christmas lighting.

In this line, after the party in the Plaza de la Constitución to inaugurate the lighting this afternoon, coinciding with Black Friday, today also starts in the Paseo Santa Fe the Christmas Market, with 21 booths, 19 for sale, focused on a first phase on Christmas decoration and food, with nativity scenes, natural fir trees, chocolate or decorations, among others; taking over from December 14, gifts and crafts with original products and ideas for gifts.

It will also be available from today on the Paseo Santa Fe, the House of Papa Noel, with his presence and accompanied by two assistants until December 23, when it will be replaced by two royal pages ready to collect the letters.

In the Plaza de las Monjas, the installed stage opens tomorrow with a macroconcert of the Onujazz Band which will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To this is also added this weekend, the ‘Fair Saturday’ programming that throughout Saturday, November 27, offers 39 cultural events, face-to-face and online, where more than 41 artists and cultural entities participate, united for 34 solidarity projects.
