Formula 1 fever in Assen is increasing: ‘Why not a second grand prix in the Netherlands?’

The Assen circuit does not see any obstacles: Formula 1 is most welcome.

“We have to upgrade the safety a bit and move part of the track. But those adjustments were made in one winter,” says director Arjan Bos. “We also already have all the necessary facilities, as the annual TT proves. We would be very happy if it goes ahead.”

The municipality and the province have already expressed their support. National politicians emphasized that the organization had to be able to pick up its pants itself. There will still be some environmental issues, but here too Vaessen does not initially see any unbridgeable hurdles.

Exclusive agreement Zandvoort

The key lies with the FOM (Formula One Management), which is responsible for the race calendar. And yet also at Zandvoort, which has a contract for the Grand Prix of the Netherlands until 2023.

“We have an exclusive agreement for three years, with an option for two more races”, sports director Jan Lammers repeats once again. “After the success of this year, there is the intention and also the expectation that that option will be taken. Without our cooperation, nothing would be allowed in Assen…”
