“Every trainer wants a Noa Lang in his team, the salt on the fries”

Noa Lang took revenge in Club Brugge’s won away match against KRC Genk (2-3), but afterwards the Orange international was met with loads of criticism. Aimé Anthuenis, a well-known face in the Belgian football world, does support Lang.

Lang was worth gold with a goal and assist against KRC Genk (2-3 win) and afterwards in an interview with Eleven Sports back to his critics. “People talk a lot. Who? People know it themselves. I don’t care, I show that again. I do what I want. I score, I decide how I cheer.”

Marco van Basten, among others, was critical of Lang, but Anthuenis shows a different sound. “Rather a player like Noa than someone who just walks along,” he tells Het Laatste Nieuws. “And if you perform, you also have the right to speak. As long as your teammates and trainer can handle it, there is no problem at all.”

Anthuenis, former trainer of Genk, Anderlecht and former Belgium national team coach, would have loved to work with Lang himself. “I liked players who are difficult, who are different. They are the salt on the fries. I don’t think that is a problem. As long as you perform, of course. Every trainer wants a Noa Lang in his team.”

Lang has already collected seven assists in the Jupiler Pro League this season. He also scored four more goals. The attacker has been dry since September. “That was a while ago, but an assist feels like a goal to me. But you don’t hear anyone about that,” he said on Sunday.
