The future of Christian Eriksen, Inter Milan midfielder, is inevitably out of Serie A. Since the death of Davide Astori in 2018, Italian football rules regarding heart problems have been tightened, and those players with an implanted pacemaker are prohibited from participating in transalpine professional competitions. The same happens to the talented Danish footballer who, after suffering a heart attack in the last European Championship, lives with one of these gadgets close to his heart and, therefore, will not be able to wear Inter’s blue and white jersey again.

According to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, given the impossibility of discharging the playmaker, Inter are considering terminating their contract. The Nordic receives a salary of 7.5 million euros per year, being the highest paid player in the squad. Although it is true that most of his salary is supported by the so-called ‘FIFA insurance’ (according to ‘Calcio e Finanza’: “a program created to provide compensation to clubs in the event that players linked to the national team suffer an injury that forces them to stop for more than 28 consecutive days). However, both the Lombard club and the footballer want to agree on a beneficial exit for both.

The same ‘Gazzetta’ envisions that the next destination of the Dane will be the Ajax de Amsterdam, the club where he shone in the early stages of his career. At 29 years old and after several irregular seasons at Inter, where he was never quite fixed in the eleven, Eriksen has the opportunity to relaunch his career in the Dutch championship.

What’s more, In places like the Netherlands, England or Denmark, footballers can carry out their profession with an implanted defibrillator. For example, Daley Blind, central of the same Ajax of Amsterdam, competes with a pacemaker since the beginning of 2020.

Blind’s case bodes well for an Eriksen who has not dressed in shorts since the fateful June 12 in the debut of his team in Euro 2020. Likewise, from Italy they point out that the Dane is encouraged by the possibility of return to the pitch and that he sees with a good eye that Inter deliver him the freedom letter. At his home in Amsterdam, you will have the opportunity to start over.
