Emma Raducanu: US Open winner before working with ex-Kerber coach Torben Beltz

In September Emma Raducanu sensationally won the US Open as a qualifier at the age of 18.

Then the British parted with her trainer Andrew Richardson. After a short test phase with Johanna Konta’s former coach Esteban Carril, a cooperation with Torben Beltz now seems to be emerging.

According to information from the “Daily Telegraph”, there had already been a meeting between the German and Raducanus manager Chris Helliar in London.

“It would be important for her to have an experienced coach who has already trained with other world-class players. For me this is the next step that she needs to achieve consistency in her performance,” demanded Eurosport expert Boris Becker in the podcast The Yellow from the Ball.

Becker sure: Raducanu and Fernandez are revolutionizing women’s tennis

Beltz would meet these requirements. The 44-year-old has already trained Angelique Kerber three times and led the Kiel woman to the titles at the Australian Open and US Open in her best season in 2016. In addition, Beltz reached the finals at Wimbledon, the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the WTA Finals with his player in the same year.

Most recently, he had looked after Kerber from July 2020 to November 8 of this year, before the 33-year-old surprisingly announced the end of the collaboration.

Raducanu: Back to US Open form with Beltz?

Raducanu, currently number 20 in the world, had a hard time after her US Open coup. In Indian Wells, the shooting star lost the opening game against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, in Cluj-Napoca she failed in the quarter-finals to Marta Kostyuk.

The setbacks were almost to be expected after the meteoric rise. Raducanu might have guessed it, but knows what to do. “I really need someone now who can guide me and who has been through these things before.” Someone who knows the “high levels”, as the Englishwoman put it.

Nothing is official yet, but the Torben Beltz option is becoming more and more likely …
