Colombia obtained four medals in judo and five in archery

Colombian judokas Elmer Orejuela, Esteysy Díaz, Gueyler Colmenares and Duván Nieto, added four bronze medals to the registry of the national delegation.

Orejuela, in the +100 male kilograms he won 10 to 0 the fight for the bronze that faced the Ecuadorian César Aguirre. The Colombian was defeated in the quarterfinals by the Argentine finalist Joaquín Burgos, a situation that allowed him to fight for one of the bronzes of the category.

The same situation presented itself to Esteysy Diaz, in the -70kg, and to Gueyler Colmenares, in the -78 kilograms, when they were eliminated in the round of 16 and semifinals of their respective categories.

Díaz, on the one hand, beat the Venezuelan 10-0 Eliana Aguilar to stay with the bronze. Meanwhile, Colmenares did his thing and won the medal by beating María Brítez, from Paraguay, with a score of 1-0.

Finally, Duván Nieto, in the -100 kilograms, was eliminated in the semifinals by the champion of the category, and, in this way, faced and defeated Panamanian Manuel Velásquez in the fight for bronze.

Five archery medals for Colombia

On the first day of archery Valentina Suárez and Pablo Gómez took the podium, both individually and in mixed teams.

The first medal, which was celebrated by the national team, was that of Valentina Suárez, in the individual compound bow modality. Then, Pablo Gómez won the bronze medal, in the men’s branch.

In teams Valentina and Pablo hung the silver medal in mixed teams.

In the afternoon, the recurve bow competitions were disputed, where Allyx Zuluaga hung the silver medal, after falling before the representative of Mexico.

In total, there were five medals, three silver and two bronze, which place Colombia in third place in the archery tournament of the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021.
