Basketball officials will stop in protest

Drafting DeporPress | The referee committee of the Tenerife island basketball federation has decided to carry out an initiative in all matches of matchday nine to express its rejection of the aggression suffered by a referee last Friday.

This has been the notice carried out by the collective:

“Given the seriousness of what happened last Friday, November 19, we are going to hold a 30-second break, as a condemnation of violence in sport. We will do it during ALL FIBT matches on Day 9, which starts tomorrow FRIDAY, November 26 until WEDNESDAY, December 1.

We will do it jointly with clubs, coaches and players. At minute 5 of the 1st quarter the timekeeper, when the ball is alive on the court, but without putting either team at a disadvantage, will blow the horn or his whistle, leaving us all in the position we are in and the ball on the ground. Table officials will rise from their chairs and remain standing during that time.

Subsequently, the timekeeper’s horn or whistle will sound again and the match will be resumed as it was prior to the stoppage, with a throw-in. It is not a time-out, the players who are on the court will remain in place and will not approach their benches.
