Antofagasta Badminton Team obtained 20 medals in the Junior National Championship held in Temuco

Antofagasta is consolidated as a national hotbed of badminton players; to the triumphs achieved by the youth exponents of this sport, such as Alonso Medel, Benjamín Bahamondez and Belén Troncoso, now joins the talent of the athletes who shine in the junior category, who said they were present this weekend at the national championship held in Temuco.

The Antofagasta team, made up of Sub 11, Sub 13 and Sub 15 athletes from the Promesas Chile, Crecer en Movimiento and federated clubs from the regional capital, obtained 20 medals in this tournament, 5 gold, 3 silver and 12 from bronze.

In the Under 11 category, the members of the program Crecer en Movimiento, Fabián Díaz Gómez and Daniela Zamorano Oyarzún obtained gold medals in both singles and mixed doubles. His partner, Antonia Vera Busdamente remained with the individual bronze, also obtaining silver in mixed doubles.

In the Under 13 single male category, the also members of Crecer en Movimiento, Carlos Toro Robles and Nicolás Rojas Moreno obtained bronze medals; in ladies singles Martina González Barrios reached 3rd place on the podium.

In men’s doubles, the duo made up of Carlos Toro and Nicolás Rojas took the silver, while Tomás Tapia and Vicente Torres placed third; in ladies, the pair made up of Martina González and Alexandra Campusano won the silver medal, while in mixed doubles Campusano and Toro reached bronze.

In the Under 15 category, the member of the Promises Chile Program, Martín Olmos Jara, achieved the bronze medal, while in single ladies Valeria Santos Jamet the silver medal was placed, leaving both Valentina Rojas Moreno (Promises Chile) and Martina Urrea Núñez in 3rd place.

In men’s doubles, the pair made up of Martín Olmos and Benjamín Lanas occupied the 2nd place, while Didier Pizarro and Renato Ruiz occupied the 3rd position. In doubles ladies, the champions were Valeria Santos and Martina Urrea; the bronze went to Pía Pizarro and Valentina Rojas.

Finally, in mixed doubles the gold went to Martín Olmos and Valeria Santos, with the bronze going to Renato Ruiz and Ignacia Pacheco.

The badminton technicians of Mindep-IND, María Teresa Álvarez (Crecer en Movimiento) and Susana Salinas (Promises Chile) highlighted the important results obtained by their pupils, which they assured account for the high level that this discipline has in the Antofagasta region thanks to the discipline and perseverance that exists around preparation and training.

For his part, the Sports Seremi, Roberto Meza, said that “these results are the result of the permanent effort made by athletes, their technicians and of course their families who, despite the pandemic, have always continued to train with the support of Mindep-IND. . In addition, the fact of having great references in our region such as Alonso Medel, Benjamín Bahamínaz and Belén Troncoso, encourages junior athletes who are developing their training process with us ”, the authority explained.
