Ann Wauters is the new President of the OCIB Athletes’ Commission!

Ann Wauters has become the chair of the OCIB Athletes’ Commission. Retired from sports since returning from the Tokyo Games, the 41-year-old basketball player succeeds Yuhan Tan (badminton). Hockey player John-John Dohmen, 33, captain of the Red Lions, and former gymnast Laura Waem, 24, were named vice-chairs at the committee’s first meeting.

“Our goal is to put the interests and needs of athletes at the center of our work and I am very happy about that. I look forward to working with this very diverse group.”, launches Ann Wauters, quoted by the COIB.

Besides Ann Wauters, John-John Dohmen and Laura Waem, the other members of the commission are: Tim Brys (rowing), Karin Donckers (horse riding), Jorik Hendrickx (figure skating), Jasper Lefevere (judo), Claire Michel (triathlon) , Emma Plasschaert (sailing), Jens Schuermans (mountain biking), Elliot Van Strydonck (hockey), Jorre Verstraeten (judo) and Elfje Willemsen (bobsleigh).

As it has the prerogative, the Board of Directors of the COIB, on which Ann Wauters will now sit, proposed the name of former figure skater Jorik Hendrickx.

“In this way, the Athletes’ Commission will indeed have two members who have participated in the Winter Games, as provided for by the regulations”, specifies the COIB.

Multiple Belgian badminton champion and participant in the Games in 2012, in London and in 2016, in Rio, Yuhan Tan still sits there as a member of the Ama Sports Committee.
