Adriana Díaz continues at a steady pace in the World Table Tennis Championships

Adriana Diaz She continues with a firm step in the finals of the World Table Tennis Championship, which takes place in Texas, after achieving her second triumph in the singles tournament when she beat the Slovakian Tatiana Kukulkova by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday.

The athlete will face the representative of Chinese Taipei, Chen Szu-Yu, in the round of the best 32. Szu-Yu defeated Hong Kong’s Lee Ho Ching 4-3 tonight.

At the moment the date of this meeting is unknown.

Díaz won her first match yesterday by beating Greek Aikaterini Toliou by a score of 4-0.

Díaz is the only representative of the country who is still alive in the singles tournament of the World Cup. Melanie Díaz, Daniely Ríos, Brian Afanador and Daniel González were eliminated in their first matches. In mixed doubles, Melanie and Gonzalez also fell in their first game.

Likewise, Afanador and González lost to Feng Yi-Hsin and Huang Yan-Cheng of Chinese Taipei 3-0 in a match held today.

Adriana and Melanie’s women’s doubles match against Korea’s Lee Zion and Choi Hyojoo will be tomorrow at 1:10 pm Puerto Rico time. It will be their first match of this tournament, as they received ‘bye’ in the first round.

Stiff competition from the Asian bloc

For her next matches, the world number 16 will face tough opponents from the Asian bloc who are among the top 50 in the ranks of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF, for its acronym in English). For example, Szu-Yu is 26.

If she surpasses that match, she would have to face the number two, the Chinese Sun Yingsha, in the round of the best 16.

On the other hand, the Utudian tennis player and Afanador will have their second mixed doubles match tomorrow, Thursday, at 12:10 pm, when they meet Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, from India. In their first game they defeated Hungarians Nandor Ecseki and Dora Madarasz 3-0.

Adriana was a teammate of Batra and Gnanasekaran when she was active in the Indian league, the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) with the Dabang Smashers team in 2018. The Puerto Rican was a fundamental piece for that team to be proclaimed champion.
