Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Duvall attended Butler Traditional High School in Shively and later the University of Louisville in his hometown. He entered professional baseball when he was selected in the 11th round of the 2010 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants. He was assigned in the same year in the A-short class, where he played for the entire season as an internal. He then played in the A-class in 2011, in the A-advanced class in 2012 and in the Double-A in 2013, playing in the role of third base in recent years. The 2014 season began in Triple-A.

Major League (MLB)[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

Duvall made his MLB debut on June 26, 2014, at AT&T Park in San Francisco against the Cincinnati Reds. Deployed as first baseman, he was eliminated by strikeout in his first appearance at bat while in the third, he hit a home run as his first hit. On September 28 against the Padres, he was deployed as a hitter substitute, making a home run. During the regular season he held the role of first base while he did not appear in any post-season game, where the Giants won their eighth World Series. He ended the season with 28 games played in the MLB and 91 in the minor league, all in Triple-A.

On July 30, 2015, the Giants swapped Duvall and Keury Mella with the Cincinnati Reds for Mike Leake. He was assigned first in Triple-A and later recalled to MLB on August 31st. He hit a home run in his first round of serve against the Reds.[1] He closed the season with 27 games played in MLB and 125 in Triple-A.

In 2016 he was called up for the first time for the All-Star Game and participated in the Home Run Derby. He also played his first full season in MLB, appearing in 150 games almost exclusively as a left winger.

On July 30, 2018, the Reds traded Duvall and Keury Mella to the Atlanta Braves for Lucas Sims, Matt Wisler, and Preston Tucker. In 2019 he played his first post-season, in which he participated again the following year. He became a free agent on December 2, 2020.

On February 9, 2021, Duvall signed a $ 2 million annual contract with the Miami Marlins.[2] During his brief militancy with the Marlins, he was deployed primarily as a right winger.

On July 30, 2021, the Marlins swapped Duvall with the Atlanta Braves for Alex Jackson.

After completing the regular season as leader of the NL in the RBI, he participated for the third consecutive year in the post-season, achieving: a triple, four total hits in the Division Series and one home out of four hits, plus four RBI and two points during the National League Championship Series.

During the World Series he made two home runs out of five valid plus six RBI and two points. In Game 5, in the first inning with two eliminations already, Duvall hit a grand slam taking the Braves ahead (who had already achieved three wins during the series) who nevertheless lost the game 5-9. At the end of Game 6, Duvall and the Braves became champions, with the team winning 7-0 over their opponents. At the end of the season he was awarded the Golden Glove for his defensive performance in the role of right winger.
