World Cup qualification: Troubled victory keeps Scotland on course

World Cup qualification

Scotland still has all the trump cards in their hands in the battle for second place in World Cup qualifying group F. The Scots struggled in Torshavn against the Faroe Islands to a 1-0 victory that was fixed late and thus kept third Israel four points at a distance after eight out of ten games. Coach Willi Ruttensteiner’s team celebrated a 2-1 home win against Moldova. The fourth-placed Austrians have no chance of finishing second after the 0: 1 in Denmark.

The Scots had a harder time in Torshavn than the ÖFB troops last, but were redeemed thanks to a goal by striker Lyndon Dykes (86th). This means that they only need one win in the two games in Moldova and against World Cup participants Denmark to cross the finish line in second place. The Israelis will be visiting Klagenfurt on November 12th and will end with the Faroe Islands.

The Israelis could once again rely on top striker Eran Sahavi, who initiated the victory in the 28th minute. It was the eighth goal in qualifying for the 34-year-old from PSV Eindhoven.

Israel celebrates victory over Moldova

Israel wins the fourth victory in the current World Cup qualification. Willi Ruttensteiner’s team defeated Moldova 2-1.

Ex-Salzburg striker Munas Dabbur (49th) made everything clear after the break in Beer Sheva. Despite being outnumbered from the 85th minute onwards, the Moldovans managed to make cosmetic results thanks to Ion Nicolaescu.
