The PSSI flag has been prepared for the U-23 Indonesian National Team which will appear in the U-23 Asian Cup Qualification. This is related to the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The red-and-white flag is also in danger of not being hoisted at events for the Indonesian national team. Nearby, the U-23 national team will meet Australia twice on 26 and 29 October.
From the experience of the Thomas Cup, the Indonesian team could only fly the PBSI flag when they won the men’s team badminton championship. Related to this, PSSI has prepared a federation flag to be reported in the match against Australia.
PSSI still hopes that Red and White can still accompany the U-23 national team. That is the hope of PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan.
“Oh yes, of course, if we have prepared it, yes,” said Iriawan to reporters who confirmed the possibility of flying the PSSI flag for U-23 national team matches.
“But it’s not like yesterday’s match, what’s the name in badminton right (the 2020 Thomas Cup), this is just a qualifying round,” he said.
“So that later maybe the flag will be displayed during the match, but if this match is normal, it’s not a decisive final match. But we are still waiting for the AFC,” he said again.
Reflecting on Russia, they can still fly their flag at the 2020 European Cup. Even though Russia is being sanctioned by WADA.
The reason is that sanctions only apply to major events such as the World Cup or the Olympics. The European Cup hosted by UEFA is not categorized as a major event by WADA.
Seeing this, it is also possible that Red-White can still be flown in Indonesia’s national team matches. Even so, PSSI cannot confirm yet because communication is still being established with related parties.
“We are still waiting for confirmation from the AFC, will we use the Indonesian flag or later the PSSI flag. We can’t say for sure because there has been no letter from the AFC,” said Iriawan.
“Communication with the AFC, but we are waiting. It must be clear, it must be written right. So that later we can be responsible later. Lita wait, yes,” he said.
