Stéphane Mazelier, the president of the Guérétois Judo-Club, does not hide his satisfaction. “We were still a little worried, we were 100 dismissed before the Covid, 70 came back and we recovered 50 more! We even had to turn away people so that our lessons were comfortable, correct, reasonable, pleasant for all and that we do a good job ”.
The explanations for this enthusiasm are well defined: the results at the Olympic Games and the aid given to the purchase of licenses. The club also has a very good reputation for honesty and family spirit, it carries the values of judo loud and clear and benefits from quality teachers (two fourth dan and two second dan).
In Guéret, judo begins from the age of 4 and many children participate in the activities put in place, there are not many places left to register. And it is of course possible to practice according to your desires, in competition or for leisure, whatever your age. “It’s a real pleasure to find all the judokas on the mat,” smiles Stéphane Mazelier. A tatami on which we noted the presence of Jean-Pierre Millon, technical executive of the Federation for 25 years, coach of the French team of cadets and disabled sports, in a kimono decorated with the Chinese flag: “Before coming to Guéret, I coached the national team for two years for the Tokyo Olympics. This evening, there is a graduation ceremony, I am on a courtesy visit and I come to support the actions carried out by the club. I like the judo practiced in the clubs, it always interests me. A judoka remains a judoka ”.
