Three dead and one seriously injured: this is the toll of the accident that took place in the night between 26 and 27 October in Grignano Polesine (Rovigo), along the SP 27, in via Giotto. The car crashed violently into a plane tree and for three of the four boys on board, unfortunately, there was nothing to do. Driving the car was Marco Stocco, 18 years old, the only one with a driving license. The youngest of the boys, just 16 years old, is the only survivor and is currently in serious condition in the hospital: the prognosis is reserved.

To notice the accident was a fireman who, by chance, was walking along Via Giotto at that hour. The man noticed the car thanks to the sidelights that still remained on despite the crash. Following his call, rescuers promptly rushed to the scene but, despite various resuscitation attempts, three of the four boys did not make it.

The dynamics of the accident

At the moment the dynamics of the accident, which occurred in the night between 26 and 27 October around midnight, it is still being scrutinized by the police. Everything would suggest that it was one autonomous leakage of the car that violently crashed into a plane tree.

What may have caused the car to skid is the combination of high speed combined with slippery flooring due to humidity. The impact with one of the many trees that lined the road was so strong that it was fatal for three of the four boys in the car.

The personnel of the crash immediately intervened on the site of the crash Rovigo Traffic Police.

Rovigo accident, three victims

The accident, which took place in the hamlet of Grignano, caused the death of three boys, adolescents between 17 and 18 years. The group consisted of the 18-year-old Marco Stocco and the two 17-year-olds Filippo Bettarello e Michael Zanforlin. Stocco and Zanforlin were students of the Ipsia di Rovigo, while Bettarello attended the accounting institute.

They were all athletic and sporty guys, playing soccer and baseball. The wounded boy, N. M. aged 16, is currently in intensive care. He was stabilized on the spot and transported in code red to the hospital.

The firemen, who arrived directly from the Rovigo plant, went to the place with three teams. The boys were trapped in the car. The firefighters had to cut the roof of the vehicle, one Ford Ka, using shears, retractors and hydraulic jacks. There were also there on site Polstrada and the Suem 118 who, after the resuscitation attempts, had to ascertain the death of the three boys.

The community of Rovigo in mourning

The entire community of Rovigo remained strongly shaken for the loss of the three boys.

Precisely for this reason the mayor Edoardo Gaffeo he anticipated that, almost certainly, city mourning will be proclaimed on the day of the funeral. The date of the funeral has not yet been set, but the mayor said: “We are waiting for the magistrate to close the investigation to understand when the funeral will be, then we will decide how to move”. In the meantime, the city clings to the pain of the families, waiting to give the boys a last farewell.
