The Vitoria-Gasteiz Duathlon will have 230 athletes

About 230 athletes will participate in the first edition of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Duathlon that will be held tomorrow from the dome of the Fernando Buesa Arena. This event, which will have 130 federated participants and 96 as popular ones, has generated great expectation in the city, a celebration that will be held, of course, under all COVID-19 security protocols.

The test, which will begin at 10:45 am for the popular ones and at 12:00 for the federated, will serve as Álava’s championship in sprint distance. There will be 5 kilometers of race on foot, 20 of segment by bicycle and, finally, another 2 and a half kilometers on foot. The first sector of the test will take place in the Salburua neighborhood, with two laps on a 2.5-kilometer circuit. The cycling section will be carried out on a six-kilometer urban circuit. In this test, the triathletes must take three laps that will run through the Portal de Zurbano area, Paseo de los Humedales and the Betoño industrial estate.

In the case of popular athletes, the distances are reduced to 2.5 running on foot, 13.4 on cycling and another 2.5 on foot, for a total of 18.4 kilometers, nine less than those they will have. to cover the federated.

The test is not only the beginning of a new competition at the national level, but it will also attract the interest of different outstanding athletes from the world of duathlon and triathlon. Among the federated favorites, in the men’s category are Urko Herrán, Iker Ortiz de Zárata (Saltoki), Hossain Qaanache, Iban Arazola, Kristian Quintans, Jones Goitisolo or Gorka Bizkarra. In the female category, the favorites are Arrate Mintegui and Lola Oyarzábal (LEA La Blanca), Sandra Martínez (TRI Infiniti Móstoles), Miren Josune Vicuña and Naiara Velasco (Sestao Triatloi).

Once the popular and federated tests have been disputed, around 2:15 p.m., the awards ceremony will be held in the podium area, which will be located next to the old dome of the Fernando Buesa Arena.
