A new glimpse of normality, even if it is still conditioned. After more than a year and a half of the pandemic, the Burgos City Council, in collaboration with educational centers and the different sports federations,
has resumed the School Games for this new year, one of the initiatives with the greatest roots and participation in the city, which had to be suspended with the outbreak of the health crisis.

Today, the situation is quite different, and although certain restrictions are still maintained, all the agents involved in the organization of school competitions considered it necessary that they be held again from this month of October. Moreover, as stated this morning by the Councilor for Sports, Leví Moreno, both children, parents and school officials “had a crazy desire” to be able to resume sports activities.

In this way, the City Council
trusts in recovering the volume of registrations with which the program had in the 2018/2019 academic year, the last that was carried out with total normality. At that time, about 11,000 registrations were registered, 640 teams were formed and 5,750 games were held spread over 150 days. The objective this time is to return to those figures, although there will still be certain restrictions.

Without a doubt, the most striking will be the
Obligation to wear a mask in competitions held indoors. Not so in those that are carried out in open spaces. In any case, Moreno has stressed that the protocols will be “adapted” at all times to the health context.

In any case, the program, which will start for collective sports on November 6, has
a very wide offer, including numerous disciplines: chess, track athletics, fun athletics, badminton, basketball, handball, cross country, adapted sport, duathlon, fencing, racquetball, futsal, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, orienteering, paddle tennis, skating, handball, squash, tennis, table tennis, trail, archery, triathlon and volleyball. Special mention should be made of the disciplines of mountain biking and multi-adventure raid, the two great novelties of this course.

Precisely, this last discipline will be in charge of officially opening the course with a
double shift scheduled for October 23 and 24 at Fuentes Blancas.

Schools have until October 18 to process the registration of their respective students. On this occasion, everyone born after 2004 will be able to participate.

The objective, in any case, is not so much to promote competition, but rather all the educational aspects inherent to grassroots sport, including the values of effort and camaraderie.
