Tennis: ATP investigates allegations of violence against Alexander Zverev – Sport-Mix

The ATP turns on in the case of Alexander Zverev (24)!

The men’s professional players’ organization has launched an investigation into the allegations against the Olympic champion.

Background: Zverev’s ex-girlfriend had accused him of beating her in October 2019 during the Masters Series tournament in Shanghai. Zverev has denied these allegations several times. Shortly before the start of the US Open at the end of August, he announced that he would not comment publicly on this matter and that he had called on his lawyers.

The ATP condemns any form of violence or abuse and will investigate such allegations in relation to a tournament organized by it, it said in the statement of the men’s organization.

“The allegations made against Alexander Zverev are to be taken seriously and we have an obligation to follow them up,” ATP boss Massimo Calvelli was quoted as saying. “We hope that our investigations will enable us to clear up the facts in order to draw the right conclusions for our further course of action.”

Zverev starts this week at the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells. The men’s competition at the tournament organized by Tommy Haas begins on Thursday. Zverev has a bye in the first round.

When asked by BILD, neither Zverev nor his management wanted to comment on the process.
