Spalletti on Ospina and Meret: “I will evaluate them from time to time”

Everything seems to indicate that the rotation in the goal of Napoli will continue for the third consecutive season. Although at first it was speculated that the new coach, Luciano Spalletti, would leave behind the modality used by Gennaro Gattuso, his predecessor, to give minutes to his two goalkeepers, recent statements by the Italian coach suggest that neither David Ospina nor Alex Meret have guaranteed ownership.

“Very strong goalkeepers, I will evaluate them from time to time”, said Spalleti, who has alternated his starting goalkeeper in the first leg of the season. The Italian started as a starter, but later suffered a back injury that allowed the Colombian to return to eleven.

In the course of the campaign, Ospina has played six games, adding four goals against and three unbeaten hurdles. In addition, he recently received the nickname ‘Spiderman’ for his outstanding performance in Serie A. For his part, Meret played three games, received 4 goals and left his goal in zero on one occasion.

The Antioquia started in the most recent Napoli match, against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi stadium, but according to the Italian press, it is probable that against Torino (Sunday 17 October) Meret will return to the lineup, taking into account that the goalkeeper of the Colombian National Team will return shortly before the game for his participation in the South American Qualifiers.

After the international break, the southern Italian team will face a demanding string of commitments between the League and the Europa League, reason for which in that country they speculate that the rotation will continue. “But given that Napoli will start an important cycle of 7 games in 22 days, it is possible that the alternation will continue because the coach intends to keep both motivated,” published La Gazzetta dello Sport.
