Serge Aurier commits to Villarreal

It is a reconstitution of a dissolved league. Serge Aurier will work again with Unai Emery with whom he worked for a year in Paris, during the 2016-2017 season. He will sign a three-year contract with Villarreal this Monday afternoon. At 28, the Ivorian right-back, who is represented by VV Consulting, the sports management and consulting agency located in Monaco, has been released from his contract with Tottenham. He had since been unemployed and therefore free to sign up for a new club at any time. Since his departure from PSG in the summer of 2017, the former Toulousain has spent four years in London with ups and downs, to finally lose his place in the formation of Hugo Lloris.

He therefore finds Unai Emery in Spain, in Villarreal, current eleventh in the Spanish championship with two wins and five draws. The Basque coach’s club is also involved in the Champions League. Last week, he narrowly lost to Manchester United in the last second on a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo. It was Juan Foyth, center-back, who played right-back at Old Trafford. Before choosing Tottenham in 2017, the Argentine had almost signed to PSG.

Like Serge Aurier who could have twice found the club in the capital where he grew from 2,014 to 2,017 after trips to Lens or Toulouse. In the summer of 2020, he was on the short list to join PSG before Leonardo turned to Alessandro Florenzi. In 2021, his name once again circulated for the Paris transfer window but the staff was divided on his candidacy. In Paris, some remain marked by his slippage of February 2016 where on social networks, he had ridiculed or insulted, it is according to his coach at the time, Laurent Blanc, and some of his partners, including Salvatore Sirigu and Angel Di Maria. This summer, Paris recruited Achraf Hakimi, from Inter Milan, for € 60m.
