With a large delegation made up of 33 athletes, Cuban athletics intends to attend the Pan-American youth event in Cali, according to the national direction of the discipline in the country, in search of international training for girls and boys in the category called in the multisport competition , called to be the relay in the Olympic cycle for Paris 2024.
This was confirmed to the newspaper Jit Yipsi Moreno, Cuban commissioner of this sport, who also ratified that, for this reason, in the Pan American Junior Games in its first edition, Antillean athletics did not include the main figures of the national team who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic party, and whose age would allow them to attend the Cali event.
However, the large group, to which two other names could still be added, does include in its payroll the three medalists of the Greater Antilles in the last World Junior Athletics Championships in Nairobi 2021, led by the champion in the bullet drive Juan Carley Vázquez; in addition to the sprinter Shainer Reginfo, winner of the bronze in the 100 meter sprint event and the javelinist Yiselena Ballar, also occupying third place in the African championship and the only member of the team at 18 years old.
The Creole entourage will have representatives in several of the events convened in the athletics of Cali. For example, on the track of the Pascual Guerrero Stadium the Caribbeans will run in 100, 200, 400, 800, 3,000 with an obstacle, 1,500 and 5,000; as well as in the long jump and the triple jump.
On the other hand, in the field they will see action in the modalities of bullet, javelin, hammer, discus; in conjunction with multiple events.
Names such as the long jumper Maikel Vidal, the eighth-century athlete Dayli Cooper, the discóbola Melany Matheus, the pertiguista Rosaidi Robles and the tripletist Leyanis Pérez, can also bring us pleasant surprises in the fair, which, in the case of athletics, will take place at the November 30 to December 5, last date of competition in the coffee field.
The two athletes waiting for their classification to be validated are Leonardo Rafael Castillo (400 m) and Daniel Emilio Mustelier (long jump).
