Joakim Noah created controversy: “It reminded me of September 11”

Joakim Noah is a special character in the microcosm NBA. He always says what he thinks, even if he sometimes has an offbeat vision… For example, he recently made a controversial comparison between a precise moment in his career, and September 11, 2001.

This Thursday, the Bulls will honor the career of Joakim Noah, emblematic Chicago pivot of Tom Thibodeaux, and arguably the best player in franchise history on the job. Find a place alongside players like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen is pretty crazy, especially for a Frenchman! But his record ultimately leaves little room for doubt. During his time in Illinois, Jooks won almost everything.

Indeed, in the space of only 9 seasons, he has established himself as one of the most versatile pivots of his generation, notably with 7 career triple-doubles, also accumulating two selections for the All-Star Game, a place in the first All-NBA team, and above all a title of defenseman of the year in 2014! Not bad for a player selected with the 9th choice of the 2007 Draft. In fact, he only lacks one thing: an NBA title…

Joakim Noah compares D-Rose’s injury to 9/11

And he and his Bulls haven’t gone far … Sadly, the year the planets finally seemed to align, Derrick Rose experienced his first ligament rupture. Time passes, water has flowed under the bridges, but Joakim Noah does not forget the frustration… And to express his feelings at the time in Zach Lowe’s podcast, he released an analogy… controversy! For a man who grew up in New York, this is in very bad taste.

When I heard that Derrick broke his cruciate ligaments, I still remember everything… the smells, the people I was with at the time. I had the exact same feeling as when I saw the plane crash into one of the Twin Towers in 2001. People will say I’m crazy to make this comparison, but no, that is how I feel.

Joakim Noah speaks of a feeling, of something which is his own, and he is probably referring to the shock he experienced at this unexpected news … But compare a knee injury, as serious as it is, to one of the most violent terrorist attacks in US history, it’s pretty awkward. Derrick Rose has regained his knee and shines today with the Knicks. The families of the victims will never find the smile of their missing loved one again. Internet users have all been lost by these words:

I thought about it for a good 5 minutes, and I can’t find a logical conclusion to this comparison.

Despite the awkward comparison, Joakim Noah will arguably be cheered by Bulls fans at the meet facing .. the Knicks! A beautiful coincidence.
