Opposed to Irina Camelia Begu, Fiona Ferro was kicked out by the Romanian. Despite a complicated match against a compatriot of Begu Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Alizé Cornet has validated her ticket for the second round. The Niçoise will be opposed to the young Canadian of 19 years Leylah Fernandez, astonishing finalist of the last US Open.

Ferro eliminated from entry
Fiona Ferro will go no further than the first round at Indian Wells. First Habs competing in the California tournament, the 83rd in the world fell against Irina Camelia Begu in two rounds. The Romanian got off to a strong start with the break from the very first game. Fiona Ferro was unable to get a break ball but, put in difficulty in the fifth game, she hung on. Dismissing five double-break balls, the Frenchwoman held her throw-in … but it was only a postponement. Indeed, more applied, Irina Camelia Begu achieved her goals before concluding the first set on her engagement and at her first opportunity. However, Fiona Ferro was able to react and, with a hard fight, she was able to take her opponent’s service from the start on her sixth break point. An ascendant that the Habs kept, dismissing a break point before having the opportunity to restart the match with no less than three set points on the service of Irina Camelia Begu. But the latter woke up, dismissing these three opportunities before picking up five games everywhere. Just before the decisive game, Fiona Ferro had a fourth chance to return to the game but to no avail. It was then that the Habs missed out on the tiebreak. Scoring only two points, she offered the ticket for the second round to Irina Camelia Begu (6-2, 7-6 in 2h15 ‘), who will be Jil Teichmann’s opponent.
