Gasol said goodbye to basketball

Power forward Pau Gasol, the greatest figure in Spanish basketball, said goodbye to professional activity yesterday in Barcelona at the age of 41 and after having won the main titles in the discipline, with the exception of Olympic gold.

Gasol added two Olympic silver medals, a World Cup and three European titles with the Iberian team to the two “rings” he won in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“It is a difficult decision to make after so many years, but I matured it for a long time because I wanted to close my career playing and not between crutches and surgical interventions,” he confessed at a conference.

In his years in the mighty NBA, where he played six “All-Stars”, Gasol also went through the Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs, where he was teammates with Manu Ginobili.

Returned to Barcelona in February this year and after more than a year away from the courts due to injury, Gasol added his last title with the “blaugrana” team by winning the ACB League and lost the Euroleague final against Anadolu Efes.
