HSV cannot win against feared opponents Kiel

HOlstein Kiel remains an insurmountable hurdle for Hamburger SV. Even in the seventh attempt, the promotion candidate did not win against their northern rivals from the 2nd Bundesliga: Both teams separated 1: 1 (1: 0) on Saturday evening. Sonny Kittel put his team in front of 39,543 spectators in the Volksparkstadion with a penalty (12th minute). Benedikt Pichler equalized with a full shot from the edge of the penalty area (46th).

The division of points does not advance any of the northern rivals. The Hamburgers stay sixth, the Kieler on the relegation place. Ole Werner’s successor Marcel Rapp is also waiting for his first win in his fifth competitive game as a Kiel coach.

In the first half, Hamburg was the dominant team. That could not prevent the first-time starting line-up of ex-HSV professional Lewis Holtby. But the Schleswig-Holsteiners also had their options.
