Happy Casa Brindisi-Dinamo Sassari: Brindisi redeems itself

Second advance of this 2nd day of the regular season. At the PalaPentassuglia in Brindisi the Happy Casa and Dinamo meet in what has now become a “classic” of our basketball, especially in recent years. In fact, there are 31 matches that the past has given us between these two companies (most recently the quarter-final of the Supercoppa a few weeks ago), with Sassari leading this challenge for the moment with 17 wins against 14 in Brindisi. These two teams arrive with opposing moods to the match: Brindisi wants to redeem the defeat in Trieste that arrived last Sunday after an overtime, while Sassari, who suffered and not a little against the VL in the home debut, wants to give continuity to the number of results positive. The only case of unavailability to report is represented by Wes Clark, still absent from the ranks of coach Vitucci (even if for him the return, after the long recovery that took place in recent weeks, is getting closer and closer).

Happy Casa Brindisi-Dinamo Sassari: the analysis of the match

The Happy Casa Brindisi puts on an authentic offensive show and defeats a resilient Dynamo in style, which tried to the last to recover the disadvantage that for almost the entire period of the race was in double figures.

The key to the Happy Casa victory can be found in two aspects: shooting from behind the bow and assists. Brindisi ended the game by shooting 15/28 from three, ending the first 10 minutes of the game with an unreal 8/9. Vitucci’s team was almost always flawless in seeing what Sassari’s defense was proposing and adjusting accordingly. In this way Brindisi has often managed to miss the Dinamo quintet, always managing to find open pitches thanks to careful and rapid circulation. And here we come to the second fundamental aspect that characterized the biancoazzurra victory: the number of assists. Thanks to this circulation, in fact, Brindisi ended the match with 20 assists (which is not new for Frank Vitucci’s team) against only 7 assists of the Sardinian team. Going to analyze the singles, the undisputed MVP of the match can only be Raphael Gaspardo. For him comes the best performance in his career from the point of view of construction: 29 points in 28 minutes spent on the court with 7 triple hits on 8 attempts. Performance to be framed for him. Other positive signs came from the long-awaited Perkins (Josh) -Adrian duo. The two combine for a total of 33 points. Perkins seasoned his 16 points with even 7 assists (significant especially if we consider the absence in tonight’s match of captain Alessandro Zanelli, his replacement), while Nathan Adrian in addition to scoring 17 points also captures 6 rebounds. The only discordant note in the match for Brindisi was the performance of the other Perkins, Nick, who, despite the 8 rebounds captured, suffered the presence of Christian Mekowulu under the iron that on several occasions limited him in the offensive half.

Sassari doesn’t have much to blame for anything other than, as mentioned above, a defense that has often failed. The Dinamo bench has scored 25 points against only 11 of that of Happy Casa. Sassari also won the match from the point of view of rebounds in attack (11 to 9) and lost almost half of the balls lost by Brindisi (8 turnovers for the Sardinians against 15 for the Apulians). The nastiness necessary in the final of the fourth period was certainly lacking, when Dinamo had managed to move only 4 lengths away from Brindisi, only to then fall back into a disadvantage greater than double figures after the time-out called by coach Vitucci . To underline for Sassari the positive performances of Anthony Clemmons (15 points) and Christian Mekowulu (13 points with 8 rebounds).

Brindisi thus redeems the defeat arrived during the debut match against Allianz Trieste.
